Finnish Heavy Metal Singer Wins 'Idols' Competition After Performing SCORPIONS, SONATA ARCTICA
April 6, 200722-year-old Finnish heavy metal singer Ari Koivunen was crowned the winner of the the national TV talent show "Idols" Friday night (April 6) after singing four songs — including SCORPIONS' "Still Loving You", SOUNDGARDEN's "Black Hole Sun" and SONATA ARCTICA's "Full Moon" — during the competition's final. The performances — which were broadcast live on MTV3 from the Helsinki Ice Hall are available for viewing on YouTube:

Ari is from Lahti, the Finnish town that has given birth to such metal acts as PROFANE OMEN, BEFORE THE DAWN and ENTWINE. One of his hobbies is "Hevikaraoke" (Finnish "heavy metal" karaoke); in 2005 he won the Finnish karaoke championships. Among his favorite bands are IRON MAIDEN, RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE, DIO, PROFANE OMEN and HELLOWEEN.
